The Royal Mews is now closed for the winter. We will reopen in March 2025.
The Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace is responsible for all road travel arrangements for The King and members of the Royal Family, from horse-and-carriage to car and from livery to harness.
See what goes on behind the scenes at a real working stables in the heart of London. As part of your visit, you'll discover the iconic 260-year-old Gold State Coach used at State occasions such as the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, the Platinum Jubilee in 2022 and the Coronation of King Charles III in 2023.

Eating and drinking are not permitted inside the Royal Mews, except for bottled water. You will be asked to place drinks and food in closed bags before being admitted. Food and drink are not available for purchase at the Mews, but there are many cafés and restaurants in the local area.

History of the Royal Mews
The current Royal Mews was built in the gardens of Buckingham Palace in 1825.

It is essential to pre-book your group visit. Buy your tickets online or over the telephone.
Coach parking
We can advise on the nearest coach set down and pick up points. Unfortunately there is no coach parking near the Royal Mews.
Guiding
London Blue Badge Guides are allowed to guide at two points in the Main Quadrangle. Visitors can also enjoy a free multimedia tour.
Access and mobility
The Royal Mews is fully accessible. Concessionary rates are available if you have a disability and we offer a free access companion ticket which can be booked online.
An accessible toilet, a Changing Space and seating are available.
Registered assistance dogs are welcome.
The multimedia guide is available in British Sign Language (BSL) and with subtitles, and an audio-descriptive guide is available for blind or partially-sighted visitors.
A number of Wardens are Dementia Friends, please ask staff for any assistance. You can also download a sensory map (PDF).
The Mews visitor route is mostly outdoors but mostly covered, taking in several stable and coach-house areas. You may wish to download a photo journey (PDF) to help you plan your visit.
There is no café or parking available at the Royal Mews, but both are available nearby.
