Horizon Rip-Off Light of Motiram Will Actually Come to PS5

Of course they are happy to support it, it’s quite derivative in some areas but really who cares. If it’s good it’s good. If it’s not, then people will care even less.

I don't mind that it's basic concept is similar to Horizon. What rubs me the wrong way is just how far they went to make sure it looks as close to Horizon as possible. Like you can make a tribal robot animal hunting game without it looking so similar to Horizon. Come on.

I mean, money is money at the end of the day.

These guys should have called their game “Dawn : Horizon Zero” and been done with it! It certainly couldn’t look anymore like Guerillas game! 😂

If Sony considered it a rip off worthy of legal action or one that will affect their partnership with Guerrilla we would be seeing something to that effect not the game coming to their console. Can people stop with the horizon cultism please.

Hence why I never backed people saying Sony should sue, it’s an obvious rip off but as long as it’s not actually ripping off one for patents and designs then it’s fair game.

If the game is good nobody but console war fanatics will actually care, and if it sells well on the PS Store then Sony certainly won’t care.

The world and machines look like a ripoff, but the gameplay is more like a Monster Hunter styled RPG.

I wish Nintendo acted like this, instead of suing everything.

Not sure why it’s called a Horizon rip off. Just because it has a similar art direction and concept? In that case all games are a rip off of something. Now, if it turns out to be shovelware fair enough, but it doesn’t seem so.

There's no reason for Sony to blocked the game or even sue the Chinese devs just because they rip off Horizon aesthetics / concepts.

For Sony, more games releasing for PS platform means more choices for PS users + more revenue for Sony & 3rd parties too. It's a win-win situation and it's been that way since PS1.

This entire industry is built on "clones" and has been ever since Pong.

As long as the game is good I really could not care less tbh.

I wonder if Sony would've let The Last Hope Dead Zone Survival (TLoU clone that released on Switch in 2023) or War Gods Zeus of Child (GoW clone that released on Xbox in 2022) live if they came to PS5.

Why is Push Square so intent on calling this a Horizon rip-off? Sure, the visual style and some other elements are heavily influenced by it, but the gameplay video makes it look like a completely different game to Horizon.

It does look very derivative in general though, like several games thrown together with Horizon just being the most instantly visible component, but that doesn't make it a Horizon rip-off.

@Grumblevolcano I never heard those games lol but Sony let Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta, an Uncharted clone released on PS3. So, maybe Sony would approved if the devs send their games to Sony for approval?

"Ripoff" of elements aside, it kind of looks awesome lol. I mean Horizon has problems and the sequel was pretty mid and ignored what could have been fixed from feedback on the original in terms of gameplay. This looks to have far different combat focus.

If this copycat learns and evolves, I'd give it a go. You know what they say about imitation. Let's also be real hear, no one is now calling the myriad of souls likes out there ripoff now and many are great.

It kind of feels like this is being framed as a rip off because this site is dedicated to promoting and defending all that is Sony and their profit margin, above actual unbiased video game reporting...

I've never known a character better at mansplaining than Aloy so it'll be better than horizon just for not having that ginger bint present.

Whatever Guerilla think of it is moot because it's Sony's call, not their's.

Even if horizon was just about robot dinosaurs, which it isn't, then Guerrilla don't hold the copyright for that so it's fair game. It's like saying PES is a FIFA rip off.

@Kanji-Tatsumi Horizon has a large cosplay community and a ton of fanfic. If you mostly communicate with gamers on this site you’re always gonna see only negative, about nearly everything!

Horizon has fleshed out characters, fleshed out story, and a great backstory. Yet the people who’ve never played it see a 7 minute clip of this game, a clip that shows little gameplay! And they say it looks more interesting than Horizon. You people! 😒

Clearly the games have very different directions.

Horizon is about storytelling, atmosphere, discovering a forgotten world, the characters, as well as the robots and combat.

This game showed one single character and a whole lot of action, combat, and even building your own robot to fly around on.

They seem to be very different games with very similar aesthetics. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Why aren't you calling Palworld a Pokemon rip-off in every article you make for it? What's with the double standard?

The tribes a 1 on 1 copy, the animals they changes dinos for more recent animals with the exact same style, even the character is a redhead.

The only reason I can see why they won't complain is because China is country you don't want to annoy. It's a mishmash of copied gameplay and a blatantly copied style and setting.

Even the gameplay is "borrowed" stuff from Monster Hunter it's a mishmash of copied stuff without even the decency of trying to create a own style.

Sci-fi versions of old weapons - check
Enemies with specific weak-points to specific weapons - check.
They made it 3rd person and added a female lead with neon "shoot here please" signs. Hardly original or unique enough to claim someone else is copying their IP. They could have called it Turok Horizons and no one would bat an eyelid.

Remember when lies of p was announced and everybody cried "bloodborne rip off" and "fromsoftware should sue" blah,blah,blah and then the game came out and it was pretty darn cool so everybody then gave it a pass..this is a similar scenario and I hope its great.

HZD is in my top 5 game and I'm one of the few who didn't care for HFW.

It definitely is borrowing heavy from HZD but that's for Sony/Guerilla to decide if that is a problem for them, which is doesn't seem to be. All that matters to me is if it's a good game.

This also seems like a natural evolution of what I would have thought the world in Horizon would come to. The embrace and use of tech by all of humanity.

@Itachi2099 Palworld and Pokemon are not PS exclusives, so it's not an issue a PS-oriented site would write about as it relates to company first party studios and what might constitute as a ripoff of their intellectual property.

Again it's just a 1on1 copy of the style it's lazy. And another copy of the gameplay from Monster Hunter if someone told me it's done by AI by feeding it some horizon pics I would not be surprised. Getting inspired by a game is totally different then copying it completely.

Again if they made something with the same gameplay no problem but it's even in the same setting buy this is a 1on1 copy its not being inspired it's a photocopy.

@Northern_munkey No this is blatant a copy it's not inspired. If it had it own style I would not bat a eye but this is on par with Unearthed.

Bloodborne and Life of P are heavily inspired but they clear they have their own style at the same time they atleast try to do something else or even better said they try to hide it.

The Chinese are a little upfront about their inspiration in this case. Look at their car industry no shame. Stellar Blade and Wukong are great looking examples about doing it right. Even the gameplay is just Monster Hunter. This game has no identity it's just different copied material.

I don't mind inspiration but this goes to far the robots and the tribes are such blatant copies its not even funny.

@Ainu20 That's the issue, it doesn't look unique at all. Show a random screenshot and it could easily be a Horizon sequel or concept. The fact that it is a post-apocalyptic game with robot animal machines isn't the problem, it's that it looks exactly like Horizon. They could've done something unique and went for their own style, but they decided to just copy Horizon, because that's what people know and recognise. Even the title font is too similar. But that's Tencent, they just copy and paste. And this blatant copy-paste game design is gonna be the death of originality and creativity in games.

The amount of shovelware that's on PS Store I'm not surprised have you seen the crap that is on there that basically give out platinum trophies that's all they do.

I tried to see if I could find a decent indie game under £5 just something that I wouldn't normally play and to support some indie dev. All I saw was Stroke the dog and other crap then Jumping burger and other food items its was ridiculous.

It's this crap that stops proper Devs from gaining rep and word of mouth when your stuck in all this rubbish. Steam had this issue with Greenlight and once they got rid of that it started to get better

I don’t know much about IP law, but to my eye this looks like a blatant infringement of Guerilla’s IP. Some interesting questions include: how does Guerilla feel about having their work copy-pasted in this way; whether they knew about this new game before now; whether Guerilla and Sony may yet sue; and if they don’t, whether a commercial licensing deal of some kind has been done in the background.

Better character, designs. Horizon has too many overweight or chubby characters, which makes no logical sense considering they have to hunt gather on top of that not living a pampered life would easily make you lose weight.

Sony would have already ninja’d this game. So having it on PS means that they’re fine with it.
