1925: Ford dealer builds Model T snowmobile

2000 – 25 years ago

  • Protecting Gov. Jesse Ventura is expected to cost the state about $367,000 more than the amount budgeted for year, that is a 35 percent overrun.
  • The Salvation Army Youth Activity Center will hold an Air Hockey tournament this coming weekend. There will be cookies and hot chocolate for everyone.

1975 – 50 years ago

  • Super Bowl IX has set the price for TV ads during the championship game at $214,000 per minute. This ranks second to “The Godfather” which charged $225,000.
  • A roadshow version of “A Prairie Home Companion” will be presented Jan. 16 in the Opera House at Mantorville. The program will be taped for broadcast on Jan. 25.

1950 – 75 years ago

  • A television stolen from the lobby of the Tews Hotel in Stewartville in December has been recovered. A teacher from nearby Oslo discovered the set in the rural school’s outhouse when classes resumed yesterday.
  • Because all tickets for the Gene Autry show Sunday matinee have been sold, the cowboy star and company will present a second complete two-hour show at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

1925 – 100 years ago

  • The Motor Sales Company has used an attachment that turns a Model T into what they are calling a snowmobile. The vehicle will be used by the Olmsted County Health Department to reach rural citizens for smallpox vaccinations.
