Because Portico is principally a dark archive providing assurance of preservation, it is not a primary method of access to content. Therefore, it may not meet the same accessibility standards as a platform focused on content delivery, such as JSTOR.
We are in the process of implementing accessibility measures that conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 AA. The latest Portico Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) (PDF) demonstrates these efforts on the public-facing Portico platform.
The following reflect known issues targeted for correction:
- Tables do not clearly communicate content or header rows to assistive technologies
- Most pages have headings, but may not reflect the visual hierarchy of the page
- Some links are not clear from immediate context, for example, multiple PDF links lack differentiation
- Resizing text or zooming to 200% on certain pages cuts off metadata content
Efforts are underway to test and remediate pages found while authenticated, as well as the login page. We will continue to respond to requests for accessible content as they arise, and make reasonable efforts to deliver such content in a timely manner.
