Netflix and CD Projekt Red are returning to Night City for a new Cyberpunk animated series, the two companies announced Thursday at Netflix’s Geeked Week event. Details on the untitled project are scant, but what Netflix and CDPR haven’t said about the new anime is perhaps telling.

The new animation project does not mention Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, meaning that whatever Netflix and CDPR are cooking up, it may not be a sequel to that 2022 series, but something new. The announcement also doesn’t mention Studio Trigger, the anime studio behind Edgerunners. Instead, the teaser mentions Netflix Animation, the streamer’s in-house studio that co-producers and develops animated features, sometimes with external studios.

Netflix and CD Projekt Red promise that more info on the new Cyberpunk anime is “coming soon,” so hopefully we get answers quickly about who’s making it.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a hit with fans of the sci-fi role-playing game franchise and players of Cyberpunk 2077. We praised Edgerunners in our review of the 10-episode series, calling it “exciting and new,” “push[ing] the boundaries of its exciting and hugely inventive visual representation of in-game concepts.” The success of the show spawned a new Edgerunners-themed starter kit for R. Talsorian Games Cyberpunk tabletop RPG and a new guest character for fighting game Guilty Gear Strive.
