Edgy movies and shows like to take a popular, upbeat song and make it hardcore or creepy to subvert expectations. The most recent Rambo movie trailer did it with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.” Jordan Peele and Nia DaCosta’s Candyman beautifully transformed Destiny Child’s “Say My Name” into something chilling. And now, the trailer for the fifth and final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power takes the show’s upbeat theme song and turns it into a soft, poignant buildup, thoroughly highlighting the high stakes, the character’s journeys, and — wow, I think there’s something in my eye.

We must be strong, we must be brave
The Netflix animated series from showrunner Noelle Stevenson debuted in 2018, designed to be a reboot of the 1980s He-Man counterpart. With a fresh new design and a narrative emphasizing the bonds of friendship, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power quickly became a must-watch for fans of all-ages animation. The previous season ended with a world-shattering revelation about the true nature of She-Ra — physically shattering the magical sword that heroine Adora uses to transform into the powerful protector.
As the princesses band together to take down their most formidable villain yet, they must remember to be strong and brave and all the other things that the Aaliyah Rose theme song promises.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’s final season hits Netflix on May 15.
