Another key offseason date has passed, with the deadline for players to accept qualifying offers and for teams to protect players from the Rule 5 Draft passing yesterday. The Yankees added infielder Caleb Durbin and catcher Jesus Rodriguez to their 40-man roster, preventing any team from scooping them up in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. Durbin in particular has made some headlines with his quality play this year, which included an excellent showing in the Arizona Fall League.
We’ll roll along with the offseason content today, as Sara grades Jasson Dominguez’s short 2024 stint in the majors, and Sam takes a look at Willy Adames, perhaps a free agent target if the Yankees whiff on Juan Soto. Also, Josh analyzes Aaron Judge’s stepback with regards to center field defense, and later, our prospect expert says goodbye.
Questions/Prompts:
1. Did any of yesterday’s qualifying offer decisions surprise you? Perhaps Luis Severino turning down one from the Mets?
2. Do you think there could be any shockers with the AL and NL Cy Young Awards tonight, or will the favorites win?
