The location couldn't be better. The hotel is right across the street from English Bay with beaches, walking and bike paths. Stanley Park is a short walk north and just south you'll find lots of cafe's, shopping and bus service. You will also see the British influence along the tree lined streets with beautiful gardens and cottages mixed in with large apartment complexes. Also, the hotel has a gre...
My stay fell between the Canada Day and US Independence day holidays and very warm summer weather, so it was extremely busy. There were so many people enjoying everything, but it made for a lot of noise. There is no actual air conditioning, just a portable unit and windows. I couldn't keep the windows open at night because of the noise. Also, if you open the curtains, you are visible to others in ...Read more
From my checking to my check out, from assisting with directions to helping with train service the staff was the best I have ever encountered. I extended my stay by two days because of the staff, location, and the historic vibe. Also very gracious housekeepers.
Very comfortable. Clean, well appointed for our needs. Perfect location.
Little or no heating control in room.
the Sylvia is a classy, simple yet elegant place to stay. The location, a few minutes from Stanley Park, and across from the bay, is convenient and beautiful.
The Sylvia Hotel is located right on English Bay. Great spot for watching the sunsets and people. The room was on the small side, but the bed was very comfortable. The linens were fresh and clean as was the tub/shower and sink. The Wifi worked well. The staff was friendly and knowledgable. This hotel is within walking distance to many shops, restaurants and services. The area seemed very quiet. We...

The hotel staff and restaurant staff were so kind and generous.
We chose this hotel for the location, close to Stanley Park, the Aquarium, a Starbucks and great restaurants a block away, and a lovely beach out front where we watched an incredible sunset. Their policies, like leaving the key at the front desk, were the same that we'd encountered in Europe, and the front desk staff were friendly and made an effort to remember our names and get to know us. They g...
The room felt small compared to most American hotels, but there was a nice table with two comfortable chairs by the window. There was a tiny gap between the wood of the bathroom vanity and the floor. I didn't mind, but I could imagine my mother cringing as she likes everything to be modern and new. The bathroom was on the small side--comfortable for one person, a bit tight for two. On the plus sid...Read more
Recommended by a friend and worth it. Older hotel (loved actual keys!) that was quaint. If you expect a modern chain, you'll be disappointed. Checked in early and was pleased with the staff friendliness.
A concierge would be nice for recommendations. Staff gave sweeping/general recommendations about places to eat. The answer was "everything is good".
You can't beat the location. Staff is very friendly. Great views.
No A/C. No cross current. Rooms on two sides of the building get morning/afternoon direct sunlight that turns the rooms into an broiler. It was 90 degrees and we literarily could not stay in the room and rushed to get out of it as soon as possible.
