I cover Congress for The New York Times as a member of the 2024-25 class of Times Fellows, a program for journalists early in their careers. I am based in Washington.
What I Cover
Washington can sometimes feel like a distant and confusing place. My goal is to help readers understand how decisions made by Congress could affect their lives. I’m also interested in how those in support roles, such as Capitol Police officers, custodial workers and legislative aides navigate an often challenging and politically charged workplace.
My Background
I previously wrote about California government and state employees for The Sacramento Bee. I’ve also covered business for The Seattle Times and breaking news for both The Star Tribune in Minneapolis and The Des Moines Register.
I graduated from Duke University, where I studied public policy, journalism and environmental science. I grew up in Des Moines, as the daughter of two journalists.
Journalistic Ethics
As a Times reporter, I adhere to the standards of integrity outlined in The Times’s Ethical Journalism Handbook. I don’t donate to politicians, nor do I participate in political campaigns or causes, such as petitions and rallies. I strive to be fair, accurate and open-minded with my work.
