Portrait of Jin Yu Young

Jin Yu Young

I write on a wide range of topics including the rising influence of Korean popular culture, and have covered political crises in the peninsula, and investigations into tragedies and societal issues.

I was born in South Korea but spent most of my childhood and teenage years in the United States and Canada. I attended Seoul National University as an undergraduate and Northwestern University’s Medill Graduate School of Journalism for my master’s. Before joining The Times in 2021, I worked at various news outlets and media companies, including The Korea Times. I speak Korean and English.

As a Times journalist, I adhere to the standards outlined in The Times’s Ethical Journalism Handbook. I want to be fair to all sources involved in a story. I strive to give everyone a chance to give their view, and I thoroughly fact check my work.
