Portrait of Adam Nagourney

Adam Nagourney

I write biographical stories, news features and analysis of major events in the 2024 presidential campaign.

I was previously The Times’s West Coast culture reporter, the Los Angeles bureau chief, chief national political reporter and a New York metropolitan political reporter. I am the author of two books: “The Times: How the Newspaper of Record Survived Scandal, Scorn and the Transformation of Journalism” and “Out for Good: The Struggle to Build a Gay Rights Movement in America.”

I have always followed the ethical guidelines at The Times. I want my stories to be accurate and fair. I do not accept gifts, money or favors from anyone who might figure in my reporting. I do not participate in politics, and do not make political donations. I do not vote in elections I cover; that is a personal decision to help me keep an open mind about the campaigns I cover. Other reporters have come to a different conclusion on whether to vote, a decision I respect.
