What you Get

$1 Million Homes in Porto, Portugal

Offerings in the coastal city in northwest Portugal include a modern duplex penthouse, a restored stone house with vineyards, and a five-bedroom house in the historic center of town.

Airy and sunlit, with traditional decorative flourishes typical of Porto’s historic homes, this five-bedroom, five-bathroom villa is close to monuments, cultural attractions and the Douro River. The property, on a cobblestone street in Porto’s historic center, was built in 1937 and restored by the current owners in 2016.

Café Duque, a small neighborhood cafe known for traditional breakfasts, is a few doors down. The Gustave Eiffel-designed Dona Maria Pia bridge, which crosses the Douro River, is about a mile and a half south. Time Out Market Porto, which showcases local purveyors and chefs, is a mile west. Praça dos Poveiros, a vibrant local square lined with cafes and eateries, is a short walk west.

Porto Campanhã station, the city’s main railway station, is two miles northeast.

Size: 2,777 square feet

Price per square foot: $341

Indoors: The main floor features an open-plan kitchen and living room with double-height ceilings and wood-plank floors. The kitchen, with stainless steel appliances, includes a small eat-in nook. The owners turned a second living space with large windows overlooking the street into an office.

A skylight, an original architectural feature, illuminates a staircase to the second floor. The upper level features a bedroom suite and two bedrooms that share a bathroom. The home’s lower level opens to a rear garden terrace and includes a second kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. Furniture in the home is available by separate negotiation.

Ceilings throughout the house boast elaborate plaster decoration, a typical Portuguese touch of the period. An entry hallway also features intricate original tiles in a traditional Portuguese style, restored by the owners.
