Mission
The mission of the Office of Fellows' Career Development (OFCD) is to provide fellows in training at NIEHS with the professional skills and career development opportunities needed to excel in their future careers. The OFCD aims to ensure that NIEHS fellows have an outstanding training experience that allows them to successfully transition to independence in their chosen career with confidence.
From 2003-2013, The Scientist conducted a survey of the "Best Places to Work for Postdocs," and NIEHS was voted in the top ten of this ranking for four consecutive years. Furthermore, the Raleigh-Durham area has been listed by the "US News and World Report" as the #3 Best Place to Live in the US.
We follow the approach of the NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education (OITE) which is to help trainees gain core competencies in six fundamental areas:
- Career Readiness
- Communication
- Ethics & Responsible Conduct
- Leadership & Management
- Teaching & Mentoring
- Well-being
