NASCAR spotter Eddie D'Hondt has secured a multi-year contract to join the No. 7 team at Spire Motorsports. His partnership with driver Justin Haley is set to commence in 2025, marking a significant move from his current position at Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR).
D'Hondt's decision to transition to Spire Motorsports was publicly shared on his X account, where he posted the Spire Motorsports logo, with the caption:
"Very excited to announce a signed multi-year deal to join @SpireMotorsport and the #7 team. Can't wait to get started & help building forward."
The transition to Spire Motorsports is scheduled to be inaugurated at The Clash at Bowman-Gray Stadium in February. This new venture will also see the 65-year-old maintain his collaborative relationship with Rodney Childers, who is currently the crew chief for Berry and will assume the same role for Haley alongside D'Hondt's new position in 2025.
D'Hondt's journey into NASCAR began back in 1981, when he first appeared on the scene as a driver in Street Stocks at Islip Speedway and Riverhead Raceway on Long Island. His career path then led him to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 1986, eventually relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1996 to further pursue opportunities within the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. Beyond his spotting duties, D'Hondt has a history of team ownership and management, having been at the helm of D'Hondt Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series. His vehicles have seen drivers such as Danny O'Quinn, Jr., David Gilliland, and Kyle Busch behind the wheel.
D'Hondt has lent his skills across numerous Series within NASCAR, including the Cup Series, Xfinity Series, Truck Series, as well as events under the Rolex and Modifieds banners. His work with high-profile drivers and teams, coupled with his association with Hendrick Motorsports, where he spent 12 years contributing to multiple victories such as the 2020 championship win with Chase Elliott, speaks volumes of his expertise and adaptability.
His move to Spire Motorsports comes at a time when SHR, his current team, is on the brink of closure at the end of the 2024 season.
