Paying to enter Muharraq Grand Park is about to get a modern twist.

The Muharraq Municipal Council has voted to ditch cash payments in favour of the BenefitPay app, with fees temporarily waived while the system is rolled out. Councillor Abdulqader Al Sayed’s proposal, backed by the council’s Financial and Legal Committee, also includes installing a self-service payment machine to make the transition easier for visitors. The council’s move is part of a push towards digital payments, which are expected to speed up transactions and reduce risks tied to handling cash, such as theft or loss. The system is also in line with Bahrain’s efforts to embrace digital solutions and reduce reliance on physical money, improving convenience for residents and visitors alike.

Elsewhere, the council turned its attention to streetlights along Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Avenue in Block 205.

Responding to a request for their installation, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, His Excellency Yasser Humaidan, revealed that the project would cost BD30,606.065.

However, he added that it depends on whether funds are allocated in the 2025-2026 budget by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.
