Summer Law Clerk – Legal Affairs

Reporting to the SVP and General Counsel, the Summer Law Clerk will work closely with the Alliance’s General Counsel and policy team performing complex legal research and writing.

This is a paid internship with an hourly rate of $20.00.  We are looking for candidate who can work 20 – 25 hours per week for 10 weeks during Summer 2025.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the SVP and General Counsel, the Summer Law Clerk will:

  • Learn about the practice of law in a policy, non-profit organization setting
  • Practice legal skills such as legal research, legal writing, and drafting communications
  • Conduct legal research across a wide variety of substantive areas related to media publishers’ interests on matters such as AI, copyright, privacy, free press, advertising compliance, antitrust and other matters with federal, state, and local legislative and regulatory bodies
  • Produce high-quality written communication for different constituencies both internal and external to the organization
  •  Other responsibilities, as assigned

Desirable Qualifications

  • Enrolled in law school and actively pursuing a J.D. with at least 1 year of law school complete
  • Prior experience in IP preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An interest in policy and legal advocacy preferably within the media industry
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with a diverse client base
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications

Global Government Affairs Internship

Reporting to the SVP, Global Government Affairs, the Global Government Affairs Extern will work closely with N/MA’s policy team to actively participate in the policy affairs of the association and to learn about the federal and state political process.

This is a paid internship with an hourly rate of $20.00. We are looking for candidate who can work at least 20 hours per week for 10 weeks during Summer 2025.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the SVP, Global Government Affairs, the Global Government Affairs Extern will:

  • Conduct in-depth research on legislative and regulatory developments related to the media industry. Summarize findings for team members and assist in developing policy recommendations.
  • Assist in developing and executing advocacy strategies by tracking relevant legislation and participating in meetings with government officials and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with the government affairs team to establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor emerging issues and trends within the media industry. Prepare briefings and updates for our membership.
  • Support the planning and execution of events, meetings, and briefings, including logistics and materials preparation.
  • Collect and analyze data related to policy and advocacy efforts, helping to identify areas for improvement and refinement.
  • Other responsibilities, as reasonably assigned.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in law school or a public policy masters program
  • Interest in federal and state legislation, policy and politics preferably within the media industry
  • Strong writing and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment with a diverse membership base
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications
