Ever dreamed of spending the night in a renovated 17th century mansion? Well, at this hotel, that's exactly what's on offer. Housed in the former Palacio de Die, it has been transformed into a boutique hotel steeped in history, reserved exclusively for adults and offering just 17 rooms. It is located in the heart of the historic centre of Alicante, next to the Cathedral of San Nicolás.

As soon as you enter the old cavalry courtyard, it's clear you are stepping into somewhere special, sheltered by its stone walls and original beams. As you take the staircase up to the carefully decorated bedrooms, you are greeted with unparalleled charm. I love to start my day at the on-site café with a bagel. Don't forget to make the climb to its charming rooftop: the views are unmatched.

Eurostars hotels take minimalism very seriously, because it's not just grand decorations that deem a hotel a luxury one. The only remains from the ancient historical buildings of yesteryear are their imposing facades, along with all the stonework that has been preserved, complemented by chic furniture.

With a prime location in the heart of the Santa Cruz area, the hotel offers city views and exudes Mediterranean charm. My favourite part is the Terraza Mira Miralta, a terrace overlooking the castle of Santa Bárbara perched on the mountain, which also offers an irresistible selection of cocktails and tapas.

Alicante excels at restoring historic buildings and repurposing them. This is the case with this former Dominican convent, now converted into one of the best hotels in Alicante. Hospes Amérigo is a 5-star hotel with high ceilings and neutral décor, featuring a rooftop that transforms from day to night. On sunny days during my stay, I visited the spa, sun deck and the pool (which is heated for cooler days) –and in the evenings, I would soak up the castle views.

The ground floor has another great attraction: restaurant Fondillon, ideal for replenishing energy after a day of sightseeing and exploring the city. The focus here is on Mediterranean cuisine, paying tribute to the rich tradition of the region with dishes like paella-style rice or Iberian pork and vegetable fideuà (similar to paella, but with short noodles instead of rice).

Calle de las Setas – or Mushroom Street – is not just a local nickname but how San Francisco Street is commonly known, thanks to its fairytale-like decoration. It was on this street that I came across Bh San Francisco Hotel, belonging to the Bahía Alicante group. Offering comfortable rooms, the luxury here lies in small details and top-notch service.

In the mornings I enjoyed the buffet breakfast, which lacked for nothing. In fact, it is one of the best and most comprehensive in the city, featuring fruits, pastries, juices, sandwiches and bagels. Their pillow menu is another highlight, along with the fact that, despite being a 3-star hotel, they offer laundry service and can arrange fun local excursions.

Casa Alberola is one of the best hotels in Alicante and my overall favourite. A building where you can literally sleep with the sea by your side. The murmur of the waves seeps through every corner and the view of the Mediterranean takes centre stage. This 1894 building was reinvented with thoughtful interior design thanks to the work of Nazareth Gil Architecture, bringing this neoclassical icon back to life.

If you can, I recommend requesting a corner room. They feature curved windows and panoramic views of the Esplanade. Their breakfasts are outstanding too, and in summer, guests can enjoy the El Bonito Beach Club. The hotel is pet-friendly, so your four-legged friends are also welcome.

Some hotels claim you will sleep like a king. But others can actually attest to it, having had a monarch rest within their walls. There is no better place to stay in Alicante than in a suite where Alfonso XIII himself stayed. The rest is history, like that of the building itself, which served many different functions before finally becoming a hotel offering a range of unique and exclusive suites.

Every time I go, I get lost admiring its sumptuous wooden features, the frescoes on the ceiling, contemporary artworks – and the list goes on. What's more, it enjoys a prime location close to the city's main tourist hotspots, like the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. In short, everything you need to have a taste of feeling like royalty in one of the best hotels in Alicante.

Neighbouring Hotel Port Alicante City & Beach, right next to San Juan Beach, is among the best hotels in Alicante. In 2022, it underwent a renovation to be reborn as a superior 4-star hotel. It's surrounded by palm trees, with an impressive heated rooftop pool where you can swim at any time of the year. Another pool can be found at street-level, surrounded by Balinese-style daybeds.

Back on the rooftop, you will find Boga Bar, a sky bar & lounge offering live music, cocktails and local food. The rooms have been decorated with a soft colour palette to ensure you get the rest you deserve. After a good night's sleep, enjoy the extensive buffet breakfast. There is also a children's area, ideal for those travelling with little ones.

If you are looking for a cosmopolitan, fun hotel with a more laid-back take on luxury, Dormirdcine is the place for you. As the ‘cine’ part of the name might suggest, it offers a unique charm revolving around the world of cinema: each room is inspired by a film or an iconic character. Featuring on the headboards or walls, you can rub shoulders with the greats of Hollywood cinema.

To end the day, I recommend you head up to the Cuppola rooftop. Here, you'll find a tempting pool with scenic views of Alicante and a menu of local flavours. They also offer an original drinks menu, including the classic Cosmopolitan served in a shoe. Delicious and photogenic, what more could you ask for?

This is the hotel I choose when I feel like getting away with my partner. Its prime location in the marina makes it one of the best hotels in Alicante. A place that combines luxury and comfort, boasting sea views from every corner. Picture it: a spacious suite with a private terrace, beds you sink into, cosy decoration, whirlpool baths... Paradise.

You can enjoy moments of luxury in its spa centre, which always leave me radiant thanks to its pools of cold and hot water and sensation showers. It also has a rooftop pool and a restaurant, the Aguamarina Bistro, where you can try Mediterranean dishes made with local produce. And all this just a few steps from the ever-bustling Postiguet Beach.
