Frontier Days Plans Full Five Days Of Festivities

Sign setup this week welcomes visitors to Recreation Park and Frontier Days.

The Fourth of July comes on an interesting day of the week this year: a Tuesday. For some, this may mean an overtly extended weekend, but for Arlington Heights’ annual Frontier Days, this means an extended five days of festivities.

Frontier Days has been around for a long time in Arlington Heights, normally lasting around three or four days each summer. Now since there are five days to work with, Frontier Days plans to feature more and different activities, a slew of bands, and all the fair-like food.

Taking place at Recreation Park, 500 E. Miner St., the festival begins Friday night (June 30) and rolls through the weekend up until the Fourth of July concludes 2023’s rendition of the event.

This installment of Frontier Days will feature a band each night. The bands planned this year are: 7th Heaven (Friday, 7:30 p.m.), Lou Gramm – original voice of Foreigner (Saturday, 8 p.m.), Mark Farner’s American Band (Sunday, 8 p.m.), Rod Tuff Curls and the Bench Press (Monday, 8 p.m.) and American English (Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.).

Another “headliner” for Frontier Days is the amount of activities planned. Per the Frontier Days website, the festival plans to host a 3v3 soccer tournament, a teen battle of the bands, dog Frisbie, corn hole and volleyball.

In addition, the Frontier Days Festival Marketplace returns Saturday, July 1 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Runners and walkers will wake up early on Sunday, July 2 at 7:30 a.m. for the annual 5K and 10K “Stampede” and 1K walk. There will also be a quarter-mile kid’s dash at 9 a.m.

Yet another tradition planned is the Fourth of July parade Tuesday, July 4 at 10 a.m. “We in Arlington Heights love a parade and take great pride in providing the residents of this community with one of the best parades in the Northwest suburbs,” officials said on the village website.

The parade is planned to start at Dunton Avenue and Oakton Street, travel south on Dunton Avenue to Miner Street and then east to Recreation Park.

Citizens with Disabilities Day includes carnival rides, lunch and entertainment for those who qualify. This takes place Saturday, July 1 where guests with disabilities can ride with one designated partner. There is a 9:30 a.m. check-in for this opportunity at the Recreation Park pool entrance, 501 E. Miner St. From 11 a.m. to noon participants can enjoy carnival rides and then lunch at anyone’s convenience.
