Two vital presentations addressing suicide and occupational trauma among fire fighters return in July, part of the IAFF Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Treatment and Recovery webinar series. Community education webinars are free, open to the public and hosted through Zoom.
This presentation on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. (EST), will address the issue of suicide in the fire service. Attendees will learn about the prevalence of suicide on a national level and implications for the first responder community. Molly Jones, LSW will discuss theories of suicide, risk and protective factors of suicide for fire service members and barriers to accessing treatment.
Attendees will learn how to identify warning signs for suicide and the basics of assessment to better help themselves and their peers. This presentation will seek to empower attendees to ask appropriate questions if they are concerned about suicide in a peer and how to best intervene.
This presentation is ideal for IAFF members (active and retired), clinicians, fire service leadership, peer support team members, chaplains, spouses and other individuals who may be seeking to learn more about suicide in the fire service and ways they can contribute to prevention efforts.
This webinar on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. (EST), will take a comprehensive look at occupational trauma in the fire service. It is intended for fire service professionals.
