I've finally narrowed down my bar stool choices to two after my original post yielded many suggestions. Both of these would work and are priced right. I favor the aluminum stool because it seems like the safer, can't go wrong choice. I favor the wood and iron because of the nice contrast against the island. My kitchen is open to the family room which has a gray couch and light gray walls but also a chestnut colored club chair and dining table/chairs in a rich wood color. Not sure if the wooden stool is too light in color, but I presume all the wood tones don't need to match exactly.
