About the TR4 Global Network
Upon the initiative of the World Banana Forum, FAO has established the TR4 Global Network, a leading neutral platform for information exchange and collaboration on Fusarium Tropical Race 4 (TR4), coordinating actions to fight the disease worldwide through science-based knowledge, an outstanding collection of resources, hands-on tools, functional information, guidelines and capacity development materials that provide support to all stakeholders along the banana value chain.
The TR4GN is coordinated by the World Banana Forum (WBF)’s Secretariat, hosted by FAO's Markets and Trade Division (EST), and supported by FAO's Plant Production and Protection Division (NSP), the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), the FAO’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre of Nuclear Techniques for Food and Agriculture.
The TR4 Task Force comprises experts from diverse countries and stakeholder groups, including governments, the private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs), and research institutions. It facilitates knowledge sharing on the prevention, preparedness, and response strategies for TR4, the latest advancements in diagnostic technologies, monitoring and surveillance systems, early detection and warning mechanisms, and breeding efforts to develop TR4-resistant banana varieties.
