Sustainable Policy

Guidance when working for EDI

At EDI/ IPL, we have a responsibility to put sustainability at the heart of our business strategy through our market leadership role, our operations and the services we provide.
However, we do recognise that our global operations can be improved by creating a more sustainable environment across the world.

As such, it is our collective responsibility to improve our own sustainability performance by adopting a systematic approach and showing our leadership responsibility when running our business to impact our world and influence others around us.

Our commitment is to achieve this goal by aligning our strategic advice, asset life-cycle operations and services in existing businesses and services across the world and commit to a more sustainable environment.

Our sustainability principles:

A future for our Society — inspiring the next generation; investing in communities; developing sustainability knowledge and skills; and creating a healthy, safe and secure workplace.
Environmental commitment — supporting a low carbon economy; demonstrating respect for the environment through resource efficiency and preventing pollution; and protecting and improving ecosystems.
Being a responsible business and protect our future — influencing and supporting sustainable economic growth with strong governance, integrity and accountability; being part of a global business while recognizing the responsibility and the importance of providing local services without compromising future generation’s business needs.

We do this by:

Understanding our stakeholders’ expectations and requirements in relation to the environment.
Implementing business and project controls to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, contract and client requirements, including arrangements for crisis management and incidents.
Improving resource efficiency, including the use of water, energy (including transport-related energy usage) and raw materials.
Valuing diverse skills and contributions by improving diversity and equality.
Increasing the development of strategies which will be of benefit to human health and wellbeing.
Improving and assessing our environmental performance by investing in training, awareness, systems, tools and an assurance program.
Monitoring our sustainability performance and progress against objectives and targets.
Adhering to EDI’s Health Safety and Environment, Quality and Risk Management governance documents.
Adhering to EDI’s Security and all related security and cyber security governance documents.
Adhering to EDI’s core values, including integrity, human rights, modern Slavery and all related governance documents.
Adhering to EDI’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion governance documents.
While the Chief Executive Officer of EDI and his leadership team are responsible for implementing and monitoring this Policy, all employees and persons working on our behalf must share these commitments.

In addition, it is our policy to:

Recycle as much waste material as possible.
Avoid the use of paper wherever possible. For example, sending invoices and quotes via email as PDF files.
Recycling equipment that is no longer of use to the company. For example, giving away items such as computers and printers that we no longer use.
Keep energy usage low. For example, making use of low energy light bulbs throughout and ensuring that computers are shut down after work.
Reuse wastepaper (from the printer) where possible, making use of the blank side for notes, etc.
Purchase products made with recycled paper. For example, paper towels, printer paper.
Purchase products with a lower environmental impact. For example, environmentally safe soaps and detergents.
Use low impact transport for travel to and from work and travel for business. For example, we use public transport to attend meetings, to encourage staff to cycle to work or to carpool.
Avoid unnecessary travel by making use of instant messaging, video and audio conferencing, telephone, and email.

Everyone is encouraged to take responsibility and act to ensure that our pledges and commitment to a more sustainable environment are met and monitored on regular basis.
