About this audiobook
Dear (almost) everyone: Can we be friends again?
Life is about to get complicated for Amelia Montgomery, a prominent litigator in Chicago. She’s been fired for not compromising her principles in a high-profile case and then punching her partner in the nose for the misogynistic comment he made in retort (not her finest moment). Leaving a career that gave her purpose, Amelia can only ask, What next?
Let it be better than her epic failure of a fortieth birthday party: an open bar full of no-shows except for John Ellis, a total stranger and the new associate at her ex-firm. As it turns out, though, he’s very good company—and a wake-up call. With the help of John and a lot of champagne, Amelia considers the people she’s wronged, from old besties to former boyfriends to coworkers. Amelia resolves to make amends—to those who really deserve it.
One apology at a time, Amelia’s looking at the choices she’s made in the past, the new ones she’s making with John, and those she’s making for herself. What next? Maybe a second chance she never expected.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Latinx book recs and diverse reading is what we do around here all year round. Today I bring you a contemporary women's fiction title, The Apology Project by Cuban author Jeanette Escudero. This was my first time reading this author and it won't be my last. I really enjoyed the character of Amelia Montgomery, a no nonsense attorney who was pretty cutthroat in the beginning. I loved her transformation into "Millie" her softer, more open side. This story was relatable, tackled deeper issues in a lighthearted way and kept my attention. I loved that the focus was on accountability, forgiveness and exploration of identity. Amelia spent most of her life navigating a male dominated field and having to be strong and emotionally detached in order to achieve her level of success. She allowed some walls to come down in order to move forward and allow herself to feel again. It sparked new desire to try new things and take a shot at love. I appreciated that the story was not dominated by the need to find love as the happily ever after. Some of the standout themes were:⚖ Women often have to sacrifice to have successful careers⚖ Women aren't allowed to be either too soft or too hard in the workplace ⚖ Women have to navigate sexism in the workplace and often don't speak out.⚖ People must take accountability for their actions.⚖ True accountability is uncomfortable.⚖ Relationships and friendships can't survive without mutual respect and open, honest communication.⚖ Some bridges are meant to be burned and that's ok.⚖ Connecting to our heritage can work wonders for happiness levels.⚖ It's never too late to learn something new.⚖ Women should not have to live up to society's standards. ⚖ One should not have to sacrifice their morals for a paycheck. ⚖ To make meaningful connections, you have to let your guard down and let some people in.Thanks to @amazonpublishing @lakeunionauthor and @tlcdiversity for the gifted copy.
