About this audiobook
Named one of Entertainment Tonight’s Best Celebrity Memoirs of 2023
As seen in The New York Times, People, The Cut, Vulture, The Daily Beast, Today, Bustle, Us Weekly, Life & Style, and Interview
“No stone goes unturned” (People) in this memoir about The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Heather Gay’s departure from the Mormon Church, and her unforeseen success in business, television, and single motherhood.
Straight off the slopes and into the spotlight, Heather Gay is famous for speaking the gospel truth. Whether as a businesswoman, mother, or television personality, she is unafraid to blaze a new trail, even if it means losing family, friends, and her community.
Born and bred to be devout, Heather based her life around her faith. She attended Brigham Young University, served a mission in France, and married into Mormon royalty in the temple. But her life as a good Mormon abruptly ended when she lost the marriage and faith that she had once believed would last forever.
With writing that is beautiful, sad, funny, and true, Heather recounts the difficult discovery of the darkness and damage that often exists behind a picture-perfect life, while examining the nuanced relationship between duty to self and duty to God. “An eye-opening firsthand account of religious indoctrination told with candor and sincerity” (Interview magazine), Bad Mormon is an unfiltered look at the religion that broke her heart.

Many readers appreciate the relatability and transparency of the book, as well as the author's storytelling abilities. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5No judging - It isn’t pretty but with a few changes this could be my life too. It’s ‘extra’ in the understanding of what honesty is - if you’re able to listen your heart and do what is necessary when it’s telling you it’s time to make a change - that’s an important story to tell. I, for one, appreciate that this ones been told in such a way that I felt heard too. :)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing loved learning more more about Heather's life and actually knowing how RHWOSLC came about an love that she's makes this hears with the little laughs an voices along the way made this a easy to get through book.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really enjoyed this. I could relate as I grew up and left the Mormon church myself. I’m proud of her being a bad ass boss babe. I enjoyed the imagery throughout the book and really enjoyed learning about her life. Now on to watching the RHOSLC!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Ahhhh I loved this so much Heather is and will always be my favorite house wife
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As a fellow Bad Mormon I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Kept me giggling and also was so relatable. I don’t even watch their show but I enjoyed hearing Heather’s story.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Interesting to discover more areas of her life. A quick easy read. Comes across honest and transparent.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Seeing her thrive after leaving the oppressive patriarchal church
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Insightful, honest and the power of continuing through difficult times. Thanks for sharing your truth.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Honest, heartfelt, and revealing. I’ve been around “Good Mormons” my entire life and I’ve had a lot of unanswered questions about their faith and what really happens in the temple. My questions have been answered and it was more horrible than I ever imagined. Heather narrated her memoir beautifully and from her heart.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I appreciate her authenticity but there were way too many movie quotes or references, song lyrics, etc that it was cheesy and cliche. I didn’t know she was a RHWOSLC before reading this and that’s not really my kind of show. I get she’s being real and authentic but it often felt like bragging. If you like the show, then maybe you’ll love the book. It was my first encounter with the author and as a writer, she’s not my jam.
