MY 2024 breeding season has gone well after a slow start, with more than 200 chicks produced by early July. The main disappointment has been with the distribution of white feathering on many of the variegated chicks, especially the chocolate & whites. Most of their parents have show quality markings, so to get many poorly marked chicks was a little surprising. However, in general, I am pleased with the quality of the 2024-bred chicks.

In mid-June, I started to reduce the number of breeding pairs from 31 and by mid-July 16 breeding cages were occupied. Well before this time, I had decided to get the number down to a maximum of
