EU neghbours and beyond

When our neighbours succeed, so do we!

As the European Training Foundation (ETF) celebrates 30 years of empowering human capital development globally, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our new communication campaign. This campaign is dedicated to highlighting our ongoing efforts in EU neighbouring countries and beyond in preparing and equipping their citizens with the skills needed in their labour markets.

Our mission is to help transition and developing countries harness the potential of their human capital through the reform of education, training, and labour market systems, all within the framework of EU external relations policies. For three decades, the ETF has supported many countries in improving their education and training systems, analysing skills needs, and developing their labour markets. Some of them have joined - or are in the process of joining - the EU, and some are good and reliable partners.

In recent years, the ETF's work has become more crucial than ever. The aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic together with ongoing global geopolitical instability and conflicts, has increased the need for resilient and adaptable education, training, and labour market systems. As countries face unprecedented disruptions, the ETF's role in supporting human capital development and fostering social cohesion is vital for helping nations navigate these uncertainties.

Our work covers a range of areas, such as:

Our geographical scope covers Central Asia, Eastern Europe, the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean, the Western Balkans and Türkiye and beyond (sub-Saharan Africa), and includes a range of international stakeholders and donors. We work closely with European institutions, the business community, social partners, and civil society organisations to ensure that EU assistance is accurately targeted and matches country capacities and priorities.
