So, you've been dreaming of a private island with your own mansion? Haven't we all. Perhaps your imagination has taken you to a villa on a lush Caribbean island or a quiet island off the coast of Greece.
Turns out, you're better off dreaming of Montana (or, surprisingly, Connecticut).
Shelter Island, a tree-filled land in Montana's Flathead Lake, is now on the market — complete with a 22,000-square-foot mansion. The 5-bedroom, 8-bathroom house sits on 22 acres in the lake and was built in 2011, according to the listing.
The house is three levels, each of which can be reached by an elevator. The home features 45-foot ceilings in the great room, sweeping views of the lake, a copper conservatory, a wine cellar, a careteaker house, a boat dock, a mahogany-lined office and extensive use of Carrara marble.
There's also an indoor shooting range and heated boat stall. Despite the home's many features, the island has been on and off the market — in 2012, it was asking $78 million, according to Luxury Listings NYC.
Granted, private islands typically go after a very specific buyer. The listing is quite frank about that.
"Some come to Montana for the authentic ranch experience, some come to be surrounded by like-minded people in organized luxury golf communities," it proclaims.
Dreamy. But it goes on.
"You are not like those individuals," continues the listing. "You are one of only a handful of individuals in the world who have the distinct opportunity to provide yourself, your family and your closest companions with the gift of privacy, seclusion and safety in the unequivocal King of luxury modern estates."
Wowza. Talk about Luxury Island Listing Writing 101. But, this is a private-island-slash-mansion, we suppose.
