UPDATED:

OAKLAND – Two East Bay BART stations were back open Thursday morning following a “major medical emergency” created when a train fatally hit a person, officials said.

The emergency happened just before 9 p.m. at the Fruitvale BART station, BART spokesperson Anna Duckworth said in a recorded message.

About 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Duckworth said the incident involved a train hitting a person and that the stations were back open.

Authorities did not identify the person early Thursday.

Both the Fruitvale and Lake Merritt BART stations were closed following the collision.

The station closures caused a major delay on the Berryessa Line in the Dublin/Pleasanton, Berryessa, Richmond and Daly City directions, Duckworth said.

AC Transit buses 73 and 1T are offering parallel service during the station closures.
