As a national centre for mathematics and computer science with a focus on scientific research, CWI aims at collaboration with the universities in the Netherlands, for instance through part-time professorships for (usually) one day a week. Currently, more than thirty CWI researchers hold part-time appointments at ten Dutch universities. By teaching and supervising students in MSc-projects or during a CWI internship, they contribute to the education of young mathematicians and computer scientists. In this way, CWI's research is linked to education and training at Dutch universities.
Cooperation with Universities
CWI supports the universities in The Netherlands in their educational workload by efforts in teaching courses on our focus areas, supervising BSc and MSc students and advising PhD candidates jointly with university staff. By doing so, we can help to attract and develop the research talent that both CWI and Dutch universities need to maintain their important role in research and education in the world.
In addition, CWI researchers regularly move on to universities. Since the establishment of CWI in 1946, over 230 CWI researchers have become full-time professors at thirteen universities in the Netherlands (or abroad): TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, University of Twente, University of Amsterdam, Free University, Leiden University, Utrecht University, Erasmus University Rotterdam, University of Groningen, Radboud University, Maastricht University, Wageningen University & Research, Tilburg University.
