30 Gorgeous Flowering Plants That Attract Bees

Build a pollinator-friendly garden with these bee-attracting flowers!

By

Spending some time figuring out which flowers to plant in your garden?

There are plenty of ways to think about it. You could look for the easiest flowers to care for and focus on a few colors you like, such as yellow flowers or blue flowers, or red flowers or even black flowers to complement your gracious abode's exterior paint color.

You could try to mix in some of the best bloom-all-season annuals with a few low-maintenance perennials so that you don't have to plant a whole new selection every year.

But one of the best ways to garden, in our opinion, is to create a green space that attracts bees and other garden-friendly pollinators. These hard working insects are essential to your garden (and the planet's) health.

It may be hard to fathom but bees—and not just honey bees—pollinate crucial plants including fruit trees, vegetables, and native plants of all sorts. This makes creating bee havens and destinations around our homes with a wide range of flowering plants and healthy nectar for bees to eat an important task. (Learn how to attract mason bees to your garden—and why it's necessary.)

Bees are particularly attracted to plants with showy flowers and plenty of nectar such as bee balm (of course), echinacea, and snapdragons. And they love wildflowers. Fun fact: Did you know that bees have wonderful color vision?
