Our story

Cordelia Fishbar, a name whose origin in some Celtic cultures means “daughter or heart of the sea,” captures the rugged aspect of the sea with thoughtful craftmanship of ship building. These combine for a warm and rustic bar & dining space that also has touches of whimsy. The space feels independent of time and will be a vibrant part of the Union Market community.

Walking into the restaurant on the corner of Morse and 5th Streets NE, guests are greeted by an expansive leather-bound back bar, dressing the walls in amber leather. Delft blue hand-painted tiles wrap the curved face of the bar, depicting a tale from the Chesapeake Bay. Rugged and distressed Belgian blue flooring grounds the space. Stout timber beams, like those from the belly of the ship, secure the wood plank ceiling above. Guests may discover surprising elements such as a niche with a meaningful sculpture, a mosaic that tells a story, or even a tiny window. The robust nature of the space is accompanied by rich leather seating and warm wood, creating an energetic atmosphere to enjoy oysters on the half shell and a draught. Unassuming but genuinely inviting, Cordelia Fishbar welcomes those who seek to connect with friends new and old and create some new stories along the way.
