Statewide Burn Ban in force until May 14

Last week, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Acting Commissioner Amanda Lefton announced the annual statewide ban prohibiting residential brush burning begins March 16 and runs through May 14. Since 2009, DEC has enforced the annual brush burning ban to prevent wildfires and protect communities and first responders during heightened conditions for wildfires.

New digital x-ray machine, suite unveiled at Soldiers & Sailors

PENN YAN – Patients at UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health's Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan will benefit from a new digital X-ray machine and renovated radiology suite, thanks in part to community donations and event proceeds from the celebration of the hospital's centennial last year. Community members and hospital staff took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 27 to open the suite.

Sampson Theatre renovation moving on!

PENN YAN - In August 2024, the PYTCo Board of Directors approved the beginning of major demolition/site prep at the Sampson Theatre, and several projects have since begun in earnest. This work was made possible by generous grant support from the Nord Family Foundation and the Rochester Community Foundation's Historic Preservation Fund.
