After squeaking out a 1-0 victory over Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday in the Europa League, Roma turns its attention back to Serie A today with an early season midtable six-pointer against ninth-place Fiorentina. Yes, my friends, that's how far the Giallorossi have slipped down the ladder. Rather than weighing and measuring Roma against her foes in the top four, the capital club has been reduced to mediocrity, where climbing back into tenth place is considered a sign of progress.
With only eight goals in as many matches, Roma's attack is on par with Serie A powerhouses like Cagliari, Empoli, Genoa, and Venezia. Thanks to some poor finishing, a lack of punch in midfield, and just a general lack of quality, Ivan Juric's attack ranks among the worst in the league. The Friedkin family may have given him a vote of confidence, but if the Croatian tactician can find a way to conjure up more goals, he may join his predecessor on the unemployment line...by which we mean lounging on vacation without a care in the world.
The lineups are in, so let's see if Roma can at least look like a functional football team today.
