Learn More

The Customs Self-Assessment (CSA) program simplifies import requirements so that low-risk shipments can be processed quickly and efficiently at the border, saving businesses time and money. It is designed for low-risk, pre-approved importers and carriers who use registered drivers to carry CSA-eligible goods into Canada.

Participating carriers can choose to clear CSA-eligible goods more quickly at the border once the importer, carrier and driver have been pre-approved. This streamlined process removes the need for data transmission prior to arrival at the border for eligible goods.

Importers can reduce the cost of doing business with the CBSA using their existing business systems and processes. CSA importers simply transmit trade data and pay duty and taxes via the CARM portal. With the self-assessment option, importers save costs because they do not send CBSA payments with each shipment and benefit from extended accounting timeframes.

CSA allows the CBSA to better focus its resources on identifying high-risk shipments that pose a potential threat to the health, safety or economic well-being of Canadians.
