Any registered voter may vote by absentee ballot, but they must apply for the ballot. Applications can be printed from our website here Version Options2020 Election InformationHeadlineGeneral Election and mailed to our office (we must receive the application by October 26, 2024) or brought to our office in person (last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person is November 4, 2024). You may also choose to apply online via the absentee portal: https://absenteeballot.elections.ny.gov/ Being out of the county or having a permanent illness or physical disability on Election Day are reasons for requesting an absentee ballot.
Voters who request and receive an absentee ballot may not vote in person. If a person does go to the polls they would have to vote by affidavit, and not deposit a ballot in the voting machine.
General Election Absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than November 5, 2024.
Absentee Drop Off Information for Cayuga County Voters:
Voters may drop off completed absentee ballots at the counter inside Board of Elections Office, located on the ground floor of the Historic Post Office, 157 Genesee St in Auburn, weekdays from 8am – 4pm and on Election Day until 9pm. Voters may also drop off completed absentee ballots at any of the three Early Voting sites, Cato Town Hall, 11320 Short Cut Road in Cato; Clifford Park Clubhouse (Y Field), 81 Mary Street in Auburn or the Moravia Town Hall, 1630 State Route 38 in Moravia ONLY during Early Voting hours, October 26th to November 3rd. On Election Day, voters may drop off completed absentee ballots from 6am to 9pm at any Cayuga County poll site.
All poll sites will have a sign displayed outside the entrance instructing voters dropping off completed absentee ballots to skip the voter line and deliver any absentee to a labeled box located at the end of the sign-in table. At the table there will be a sign indicating “Absentee Ballot Drop-Off.” An inspector will accept absentee ballots from voters queuing up at this sign. In each case, the absentee drop off table will be clearly marked and allow voters to avoid lines and delays. All ballots will be secured in a sealed ballot bag until they are delivered to the Board of Elections Office.
Voters who wish to complete an accessible absentee ballot may apply online https://absenteeballot.elections.ny.gov/ or complete an accessible ballot privately and independently in our office weekdays, 8am - 4pm. For voters who utilize the accessible absentee ballot system, printers are located at all voting locations. Voters with a disability will be able to vote in-person using an accessible Ballot Marking Device (BMD), either during early voting or on Election Day.
