Eva Longoria Explained Why She Actually Left The US, After Comments That Suggested It Was Because Of Donald Trump

"People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive, which makes me so sad,"

Eva Longoria is clearing the air.

Quick recap: Last week, Marie Claire published an interview with the actor in which she revealed that she and her family currently split time between Mexico and Spain — meaning that they basically don't live in the US anymore.

Eva cited multiple reasons for the move, and she discussed Donald Trump's recent win in the US presidential election — and she also acknowledged the "privileged" situation her family experiences.

"I get to escape and go somewhere," she said. "Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”

Since the interview was published, the general chatter online has been that Eva and her family specifically moved out of the country because of the election — and now, she is setting the record straight.

On Friday, Eva called in to The View co-host Ana Navarro's The View: Behind the Table podcast to straighten things out. “Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of Spain, I mean the United States, because of Trump?” she asked.

Ana Navarro's friend Eva Longoria unexpectedly called her while she was taping our 'Behind The Table' podcast and addressed headlines that she left the United States because of President-elect Trump's victory. “I’ve been in Europe working for almost three years,” Eva explained, after Ana noted that the move technically took place before this current election. “By the way, the article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive, which makes me so sad, you know. Everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can’t be that way right now.”

When Ana pointed out that Eva had previously said to her that living abroad "had been like shutting off the noise," Eva responded, “Yeah, I mean, being away from the constant 24-hour news cycle puts you in a bit of a bubble, for sure."

But Eva reiterated that she lives outside of the US for professional reasons first and foremost. “That’s why I’m in Europe," she said. "I didn’t leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there.”
