Paul Mescal Finally Addressed That Viral Saoirse Ronan Moment, And It Sounds Like She Really Schooled Him

The moment quickly went viral last month and sparked many conversations about male privilege.

Paul Mescal addressed that viral TV moment between him and Saoirse Ronan.

If you missed it, Paul and Saoirse were on The Graham Norton Show with Eddie Redmayne and Denzel Washington last month when Eddie started talking about his new action series The Day of the Jackal. He mentioned how he'd learned to use a phone to defend himself, leading Paul to joke about the method of using a phone in dangerous situations.

"Who’s actually gonna think about that, though?" he said. "If someone attacked me, I’m not gonna go: 'Phone!'"

"Sorry mom, one second — bang," he joked, as Saoirse playfully rolled her eyes. "That's a very good point," Eddie added.

Before then, Saoirse could be seen struggling to get a word in, but, at that point, she jumped in to say, "That's what girls have to think about all the time." She added, "Am I right, ladies?" to uproarious applause from the audience.

Yesterday, Paul addressed the moment on Ireland’s The Late Late Show.

When asked if he was "surprised" by how it all played out, Paul said, "No, I don’t think we were surprised because, as you said, you’re on a talk show like this and you’re kind of just talking. But I’m not surprised that the message received as much attention that it got because it’s massively important.”

Speaking about Saoirse specifically, Paul said, "She's quite often, more often than not, the most intelligent person in the room, and I think she was spot-on. [She] hit the nail on the head."

"And it's also good that messages like that are gaining traction," he added. "Like, that's a conversation that we should absolutely be having on a daily basis."

Absolutely. Watch the moment here around the 10:00 mark, and share your thoughts on the situation down in the comments.
