Getting Started
British Judo prides itself on it’s large volunteer base – one that provides the backbone of the Association. Judo volunteers are much more than people who give up their free time – they become an invaluable member of the judo family.
Volunteers choose to help other people by giving up their time or expertise. British Judo recognises the hard work and dedications of volunteers across the UK without whom the sport would not run.
You don’t have to know your ippon from your waza-ari to get involved. Whether you’re a current player, someone who has hung up their judogi or a person who has never set foot in a dojo, you could be a valued judo volunteer.
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in a range of activities and roles which are essential to our sport.
Event Volunteering
Event Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that British Judo’s exciting major competitions run effectively.
What do Event Volunteers do?
The size of the event will determine the range and scale of the opportunities available to event volunteers.
Pre-event activities may include:
- Competition administration
- Sourcing equipment
- Venue set-up
- Food preparation
- Meet and greet
While on the day people may be required to:
- Supervise the car park
- Sell refreshments
- Collect entrance fees
- Act as stewards
- Basket carriers for athletes
- Part of the medal and other ceremonies
How can I get involved?
If you are interested in working at British Judo National Events please contact [email protected] stating how you would like to volunteer and we will then look into available opportunities and match them to your skills set.
Club Volunteering
Club volunteers fulfil a variety of important roles to ensure judo clubs run smoothly.
Every judo club is unique with different set-ups and needs. The volunteering roles will vary from club to club but you will be warmly welcomed and put to good use if you decide to volunteer at a judo club.
How can I get involved?
If you already attend a judo club and want to get involved in volunteering speak to the coach or volunteer co-ordinator to find out what opportunities are available. If you have a specific skill set let the club know, they may really need someone with your knowledge and experience.
If you aren’t currently involved in judo but would like to support your local club, use the club finder tool to locate your nearest club and contact them directly to offer your services.
