Well, there was two things. Maybe more. I'm going to stick with two things. I'm probably the only one that remembers them, but I typed them in there and I remember doing that.

Thing 1:

Cavan Biggio Was Going To Be Amazing For Us In 2024!!!!

Yeah.

No.

In fact, he wasn't amazing in any productive sense even for The LA Dodgers. He pretty much looked great standing at the plate and that was the sum total of his output. The thing is...HE LOOKS LIKE HE SHOULD BE GOOD. Like, if you stuck him next to Kirk and asked, "Which one of these guys is the better baseball player?" No one would pick Kirk. But it's not even close. Alejandro Kirk is an outright stud baseball player. If he had Cavan's physique and pedigree baseball would not stop talking about him. But he does not and no one but us talks about him.

Anyhow, I was wrong about Cavan being any help to us at all.

Thing 2:

(This is a big one. So, hold on to your butts)

"Shapiro & Atkins did an AMAZING job in the off season adding to the team & we would easily coast into the post season in 2024."

I mean...I wrote that. I did. I did so thinking there was every chance that was going to be true.

It. Was. Not. An. Amazing. Job.

The team was soul crushingly bad. If they won a series they made sure to lose the next one. If they swept a series, they made sure to be swept at least twice to make up for it. If they had a lead they made sure to give that right back.

In every way possible they ground down our will to believe in them until here we are, watching staff get dismissed, players heading for surgery, and Vlad entering the last year of his contract with us.

You, know, I get to be emphatically wrong a lot. Usually I'm wrong and all is well. That's how it works down at Ye Olde Salt Mines, anyways.

Turns out being a Baseball Optimist isn't anywhere near as rewarding.

I will make no predictions for 2025. I wish only for a peaceful offseason and a kindly spring. Providing I don't get all contrary I might even have cause for some hope.

Ah yes. Hope. We know all there is to know about that...
