WATCH: Jaguars Rookie Star Speaks After Packers Loss

With the season past the half way mark and the Jaguars still losing games, let's take a look at some of their statistical performances so far.

Pass Rush

FDDx4u5.0.png

The Jaguars starting 4 on passing downs should probably be Josh Hines-Allen/Esezi Otomewo/Arik Armstead (at IDL)/Travon Walker. There might be a data driven case that a Baalke 4th round pick is outplaying a Baalke big contract player in looking at the pass rush numbers of DaVon Hamilton vice Jordan Jefferson. Overall the DL is not filled with pass rushers and this could be an area of interest as we look forward to next year's draft.

OL Rankings (Moving Forward)

Due to how PFF releases their data (no CSV by week option) with a player's team name being the team they end the season on, the following placements are where the Jaguars OL would rank this season if Cam Robinson was never a Jaguar.

team_name weighted_mean_grade weighted_mean_grade_rank weighted_mean_pass weighted_mean_pass_rank weighted_mean_run weighted_mean_run_rank
KC 74.5 2 74.8 2 71.6 5
IND 72.9 5 72.6 4 73.8 3
DEN 69.7 9 73.8 3 65.2 21
BLT 68.2 13 70.6 6 66.5 14
LAC 66.8 15 58.8 27 68.0 12
PIT 65.2 17 60.2 25 65.5 19
BUF 64.9 18 67.2 14 65.4 20
JAX 63.1 24 66.8 15 58.9 27
HST 62.1 26 65.3 20 60.8 25
TEN 56.9 30 59.5 26 57.4 29

Still managing to be dead average when it comes to pass blocking, with run blocking bringing them into the lower ranks of the NFL's middle 50% overall. Guess the team will need to print up new shirts.

But let's take a look at where players fall in relation to each other.

The aging interior of the OL has been adequate this year, Ezra Cleveland might be the only position locked moving forward, and the preseason play of Cole Van Lanen has reappeared during the season. The team is probably in the market for at least 1 new tackle and it doesn't look like Cooper Hodges is much to look forward to at guard.

Defensive Coverage

Let us once again cat our eyes on the defense and find arguably worse news when looking at our pass coverage than we did when looking at our pass rushers.

Foye Oluokun, Tyson Campbell, and rookie Jarrian Jones are bright spots in this regard. Former 1st round pick Devin Lloyd, former high 3rd round picks Andre Cisco/ Chad Muma, starter Ronald Darby, and "late round steal" Antonio Johnson are all terri-bad in coverage.

But another area that can help to make a defensive unit the worst in the league is poor tackling, so lets see how many of our "good" players survive slightly more scrutiny.

So the Jaguar's defense might just be Foye Oluokun, Josh Hines-Allen, Bubble Gum, Duct Tape, and Prayers.
