The Jaguar's have tallied their first win of the season, so let's continue to check in on how the team is doing in the stats sheet.
Previous Weeks
Pass Rush Depth
A continuing storyline has been about the Jaguar's lack of off-season interest in adding much in the way of pass rushers to an defensive line without much talent. Due to an outstanding performance by Travon Walker against the Colts, this section is a little less grim than usual.
Josh Hines-Allen continues to be the only above average talent the team has rostered in the way of pass rush, but at least now the Jaguars have two average talents in Esezi Otomewo and first overall pick Travon Walker. The returns on free agents Arik Armstead and DaVon Hamilton have not been great and the same can be said for Baalke draft picks Maason Smith, Tyler Lacy, and Myles Cole.
Offensive Line
One area often blamed for the team's offensive struggles has continuously been the offensive line, and well, it looks like we will need to find another excuse.
The OL officially ranks overall average based on slightly improved run blocking and above average pass blocking. But let's see how they are doing individually.
Once again we see the common theme of Baalke free agents and Dave Caldwell draft picks = Good, Baalke draft picks = bad playing out. Hopefully the team can continue to find ways to buy themselves out of bad drafting.
Also, since Anton Harrison is the lone non-productive starter on the OL and fans have been wont to blame Cam Robinon this season, let us once again see what the hypothetical Jaguar's OL would look like if we replaced Food Take Ton's snaps with someone that is Cam Robinson level productive.
If not for a Baalke first rounder's inability to play to the level of a Dave Caldwell second rounder, the Jaguars would be a top 10 OL while affording Trevor Lawrence top 5 pass blocking.
Pass Coverage
Let's turn our attention back to the defense and see how all three levels are faring against the pass so far in 2024.
Director of pro player personnel = good, Trent Baalke draft picks = bad. The only players doing above the league mean for NFL passer rating when targeted are the banged up Foye Oluokun and Darnell Savage. Trent Baalke first rounder Devin Lloyd and third rounder Jarrian Jones have been below average in coverage, with top 65 overall Baalke draft pick Andre Cisco and top 70 overall Baalke draft pick Chad Muma doing especially horrible in coverage.
But let's do a check in for missed tackles in the back 7.
Kudos to Nielsen for managing to keep a top 15 defensive success rate with coverage players and tackling this poor to work with.
Draftable Players
Out of respect for the Jaguar's first win, we will forgo this section this week. This section will return on weeks the Jaguars lose.
