6 heat-related deaths reported in Maryland this year; here’s where to go to stay cool

UPDATED:

Six people in Maryland have died from heat-related issues this summer with four of those deaths in the last two weeks, according to the state health department.

Maryland recorded the year’s first heat-related death last month in Prince George’s County. Since then, central Maryland has experienced severe heat through the end of June and early parts of July.

During the recent heat wave, Prince George’s County tallied three more heat-related deaths and Anne Arundel and Baltimore City tallied one each, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

As this weekend approaches, the Baltimore area may get a brief break from the heat with storms in the forecast for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. But the heat index will climb back over 100 on Sunday afternoon with temperatures rising even higher, later.

As the heat continues, cooling centers across the Baltimore area offer relief from dangerous conditions.
