      Frequently asked questions about sponsorships

Do you have any questions or would you like some sponsorship tips? Here you will find all the important information about sponsorship opportunities, organizational details and your suitable sponsored animal at Aquarium Berlin!

      • What is a sponsorship?

A sponsorship is a donation that supports the daily work of Aquarium Berlin and helps ensure the wellbeing of the animals. As a thank you for their support, sponsors receive a certificate of sponsorship and are invited once a year to an exclusive summer sponsors’ evening. In addition, all sponsors are kept up to date with news from the Zoo, Aquarium and Tierpark with the biannual ZooMomente magazine for friends and supporters.

      • How long does a sponsorship last?

An animal sponsorship automatically ends after one year. Sponsorships can be renewed at any time. You will receive a reminder shortly before your sponsorship expires.

You can also save yourself the time of manually renewing your sponsorship by setting up a standing order. This effectively makes your sponsorship unlimited until you choose to end.

      • How can I renew my sponsorship?

You can easily renew your sponsorship by transferring the agreed sponsorship amount to our donation account:

Please transfer the full annual sum to:

        Spendenkonto Zoologischer Garten Berlin AG
        Berliner Sparkasse
        IBAN: DE62 1005 0000 0191 1760 44
        BIC: BELADEBEXXX
Reference (Verwendungszweck): Sponsorship renewal for animal

      • Which animals can be sponsored?

In principle, every animal species can be sponsored. Only the “big ones”, such as our Ganges gavials, only have one sponsor each. Still not sure which animal to choose? We will be happy to advise you by phone or at [email protected].

      • Can I sponsor one specific animal?

Generally, a sponsorship applies to an entire species. Exclusive sponsorships for individual animals are available for some of the larger inhabitants as part of a premium sponsorship.

      • From what donation amount can I take on a sponsorship?

Sponsorships are available starting at just 100 euros per year.

      • How can I give a sponsorship as a gift?

We are delighted that you would like to gift a sponsorship! Simply complete this online form. The certificate will be sent to you automatically so that you can present it to the recipient in person.

      • How do I receive my sponsorship certificate?

You will be sent the certificate via email as a PDF document as soon as you have filled out the sponsorship form and concluded the process. On request, the certificate can also be sent by post.

      • When can I visit my sponsored animal?

Of course, all the sponsored animals can be visited at any time during regular opening hours from Aquarium Berlin.

The best way to do this is to book an online ticket. Online tickets are cheaper than at the ticket offices on site. If you book your tickets online, you not only save a lot of time and can skip the queues on site, you can also book your tickets from the comfort of your own home - regardless of opening hours and without the need for a user account! You can then download your tickets directly and go straight to the entrance before your visit.

      • Will my name be displayed next to the habitat of my sponsored animal(s)?

The names of all supporters are displayed at the Aquarium entrance. You will be listed separately here if you are a premium sponsor.

      • Am I granted free entry to the Aquarium as a sponsor or donor?

Sponsorships and donations are intended to benefit the animals and help with the maintenance of the grounds. Therefore, sponsors and donors do not receive free admission, as this would greatly reduce the impact of the financial support provided.

      • Can I also take on a sponsorship as a company?

It is only possible for private individuals to take out a sponsorship via our online form. However, you are of course very welcome to take on one of our exclusive company sponsorships for an animal species of your choice. Please contact us directly to discuss the possibilities.

      • Are donations and sponsorship payments tax deductible?

Yes, all donations made to Aquarium Berlin are tax deductible.

      • When do I receive my donation receipt?

For one-off donations of up to €300, you do not need a donation receipt. Up to this amount, German tax offices accept the cash deposit slip or transfer confirmation from your bank as proof of the donation. For donations of €300 or more, a donation receipt will automatically be sent to you in the spring of the following year.

Please note that donation receipts can only be issued in the name of the account holder.

      • Can I get a donation receipt in a different name?

A donation receipt can only be issued to the person or company that actually made the donation (account holder of the donation). Only the person who actually made the donation can claim a donation for tax purposes. This means that it is not possible to issue a donation in another name for tax reasons. This also applies to donations in the name of third parties.

      • To which account should I transfer the sponsorship amount?

As soon as you have decided on the sponsorship and do not wish to conclude it directly online, please transfer the annual amount to the

        Spendenkonto Zoologischer Garten Berlin AG
        Berliner Sparkasse
        IBAN: DE62 1005 0000 0191 1760 44
        BIC: BELADEBEXXX
Reference (Verwendungszweck): Sponsorship renewal for animal

      • Can a donation be automatically debited from my account?

When you make a sponsorship via our sponsorship form, your account will be debited automatically. If you do not complete the form, we can also debit a donation directly from your account or set up a standing order at your explicit request. Please inform us of this request in writing. A bank transfer form can also be sent to you on request. Of course, you can also arrange this directly with your bank.

      • What do I do if my account details change?

If your account details change after you have set up a standing order via the Aquarium website, please contact [email protected] and request the deletion of the existing data in writing. You can then set up a new standing order yourself via your bank or send us your new account details to update them.

      • How do I cancel an existing standing order?

Standing orders set up via the Aquarium website can be revoked. To do this, please write to [email protected]. Standing orders that you have set up via your bank can only be terminated there.

      • Can I donate food and goods?

Thank you very much for your offer and willingness to help! Our animals’ diets and habitats are governed by a very strict hygiene and quality concept to avoid any possible health and safety risks. Ensuring that food and material donations adhere to this concept would require a great deal of administrative effort. For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to accept donations of food and goods.

However, you can support the aquarium online with a “digital food basket”. You can find more information here.

      • Where can I find information on current donation projects?

Here you will always find all the latest information about the various donation projects. Supporters are also kept up to date with the latest news from Zoo, Aquarium and Tierpark Berlin twice a year via the exclusive magazine “ZooMomente”.

Do you have questions about donations?

In addition to sponsorships, there are other ways to support the work of Aquarium Berlin. In our donation FAQ you will find all the important information about donation options and how you can help.
