AOL reviewed: This Quince cashmere is a versatile sweater that feels as good as it looks
Does anyone else look forward to sweater season each year? It can’t be just me! There’s something so satisfying about finding a sweater that’s as cozy as it is stylish, but not just any sweater will do. There are elements of a good — and bad — sweater: the sleeve size, the fabric’s softness or itchiness, the textile design (think cable knits or waffle sweaters), the color, and how well it holds up over time. I practically live in sweaters from September to May, so when I tell you I found a good one, I promise you should keep reading. Quince’s Mongolian Cashmere Wide-Rib Cropped Mockneck Sweater might be a mouthful, but it checked all the boxes on my list.
What is Quince?
Quince (pronounced like prince) is an online retailer that bridges the gap between luxury quality and affordability. Its three-prong mission is to provide high-quality goods at a fraction of the price of luxury brands, all while prioritizing sustainable practices and cost transparency. The brand offers a wide range of products, from clothing for the whole family to home goods, linens, accessories, and jewelry. By focusing on timeless designs and responsible production, Quince provides products that are more affordable to shoppers who value high-quality materials, sustainable production, and ethical sourcing.
The Mongolian Cashmere Wide-Rib Cropped Mockneck Sweater from Quince is crafted from 100% Grade-A Mongolian cashmere, known for its softness and durability. The style has subtle dropped shoulders and a mock-neck design, which makes it a versatile closet staple. The cashmere is breathable and soft, so while sweater season is usually the coldest months of the year, this sweater can be worn in the shoulder seasons too. Like many of Quince’s textiles, the sweater is made in a production plant equipped with solar and wastewater treatment systems and is factory certified by the Higg FEM standard, reflecting the brand’s commitment to reducing environmental impact.

What I loved
Warm and cozy
Despite its lightweight feel, the cashmere sweater offers impressive warmth and coziness. It kept me comfortably warm without feeling bulky or puffy. The fabric’s thickness is perfect for wearing on its own, but I layered it with an undershirt for extra warmth and noticed it didn’t alter my silhouette.
Versatile silhouettte
This cropped sweater is simple but stunning and pairs beautifully with high-waisted pants, making it ideal for both casual and polished looks. It’s not overly cropped, so the style feels appropriate for office settings or family gatherings. With my long torso, I appreciated how the length felt just right — cropped without being revealing.
How it feels
The cashmere is luxuriously soft and free from any itchiness, which is a big plus for my sensitive, easily irritated skin. The fabric felt smooth and gentle against my skin, making it comfortable to wear all day. For those who prefer layering, a tank or undershirt is always an option for layering and won’t compromise the breathable nature of the cashmere, keeping you from overheating or feeling stuffy.
What I don't love
High-maintenance care
The sweater requires a bit of extra care when it comes to laundering and storage, but the effort is well worth it to maintain its quality. Quince’s Cashmere 101 guide recommends washing the sweater by hand with cold water, as the cashmere fabric becomes fragile when wet. A mild soap or detergent is also fine, but letting it air dry helps preserve its shape and durability. You may also want to invest in a cashmere comb to combat pilling. While these are additional steps to tossing in a load of laundry, taking care of the fabric will keep the sweater in your wardrobe rotation for years.
Limited color options
Unfortunately, this sweater is only available in three colors. Thankfully, I love good neutrals. Quince has the sweater available in Black, Brown, and a deep green called Moss. While these colors are easy to match with many wardrobes, I’d certainly wear the sweater in other shades like lilac, red, or beige.
Is it worth it?
If you’re looking for a versatile sweater that feels as good as it looks, I wholeheartedly recommend Quince’s Mongolian Cashmere Wide-Rib Cropped Mockneck Sweater. Its softness, warmth, and flattering cut make it a must-have for any wardrobe. I found a new favorite sweater this season—and as a sweater-lover, that’s saying something! Though the price tag might be higher than some are used to, it doesn’t come at the cost of the planet, and with the proper care, you’ll be able to wear it season after season. Here’s to hoping there are more colors soon!
As a lover of sweaters, finding one that fits well, can be dressed up or dressed down, and is high-quality while also being relatively decent to the planet is a huge win.
