Chance the Rapper's wife Kirsten Corley Bennett files for divorce 8 months after split

Chance the Rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley Bennett are calling it quits.

On Friday, Corley Bennett filed for divorce from the Chicago rapper in Cook County, Illinois, according to court records reviewed by USA TODAY. The filing comes after "The Voice" judge, whose legal name is Chancelor Bennett, announced the pair's split in an April post on his Instagram Stories.

USA TODAY reached out to reps for Chance the Rapper for comment.

In April, the exes revealed their split in a joint statement posted to Chance's Instagram Stories, writing "After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways" and that "we came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together."

"We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition," the statement concluded.

The pair shares two daughters, 9-year-old Kensli and five-year-old Marli Grace, whom they plan to "raise together." Chance and Corley wed in March 2019.

The two reportedly exchanged vows during a ceremony held at the lavish Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, with a star-studded slate of attendees such as Kim Kardashian, Kanye "Ye" West, Dave Chappelle and singer Kirk Franklin, who also performed during the ceremony, according to Paper City Magazine.

According to the Chicago Tribune, a marriage certificate shows the couple was married in a civil ceremony in Chicago on Dec. 27, 2018.

Days before they tied the knot, Chance said he first met Corley Bennett in 2003 at 9-years-old at his mother's office party.

"We were instructed to make way for an exclusive performance by DESTINY's CHILD!!" Chance recalled on X of a lip-synced performance featuring Corley. "Now I'm locking eyes with the prettiest girl I ever seen in my almost-a-decade of life on earth."
