For any homeowner, or home renovator, nothing can make more of a dramatic change to a room for an affordable price than repainting a room. While paint and supplies are cheap, hiring painters could be expensive. Because of this, most people prefer to paint the room themselves. Unfortunately, most amateur painters frequently make mistakes, which could lead to a sloppy looking job or ruin flooring, ceilings, or furniture. Luckily, it is quite easy to repair paint related mistakes.
The first common painting mistake is to drip paint onto the floor. This mistake can be easily avoided by not putting too much paint on your roller or covering the floor, but to repair this painting error can also be done fairly easily. If you drip paint on to a hard floor, such as hardwood flooring, tile, or laminate, then cleaning it up can be done simply with water and a wash cloth. Be sure to clean immediately as it could eventually stain the floor. If you drip paint onto carpet, this could require more extensive repair. Depending on the difference in color between the carpet and the paint, you may be able to clean it up with just a wash cloth. However, a big difference in color could require cleaning solutions, bleach, and possibly a carpet cleaner.
The second common painting mistake is to accidentally get paint on the ceiling. This mistake can also be easily avoided by either taping up the edges of the ceiling, or using a roller designed for edges and ceilings. However, to repair painting errors on the ceiling, you must act quickly. If you react immediately, and before the paint dries, you could clean it up with just a washcloth. However, if it does dry, then you may have to repaint a portion of the ceiling. If you don’t have a matching ceiling paint, then you may need to repaint the entire ceiling.
The third common mistake, that requires repair is just doing a sloppy job. The easiest, and most effective way to do this is put on a second coat of paint. This will make the walls seem more balanced, and the overall job will look much better.
