A lot of people cross country skiing! A lot of hikers had snow shoes on but my friend and I did just fine without them! Snow is packed down pretty well. I would recommend bringing sunglasses bc when the sun is out it is BRIGHT! Also you can’t drive to the trail head - you park about 1.5 miles before the start of the trail head and hike to it. All in all will be back to do this again. This hike in the snow is MAGICAL

First 1.5 miles is on the road beginning at the ski parking lot. We only made it about a quarter mile on the trail before turning back. Gorgeous views once the sun came out.

A little slippery on a few spots, but with trekking poles can handle it. No snowshoes needed as the snow is very compact all the way up. Recommend micro spikes but definitely can do it without them.

Icy so spikes worked best. No problem reaching Hurricane Hill. Forgot to turn on All Trails. So mileage is not accurate. Beautiful weather and views!

Right now trail round trip is about 6 miles and over a 1,000 feet of elevation gain. Snowshoes were not necessary at this time but I would recommend spikes.

5.5 miles round trip from parking lot nearest to trailhead. Just needed microspikes today. Snowshoes are too wide for some parts of the narrow trail. Snow is hard packed and icy in the morning. Bathrooms with flush toilets. Gate opens at 9am, ranger said to be in line at 8am to get a parking spot. Pass needed.

Not very much snow, but enough to cover the trail for good snowshoeing. Very crunchy and icy

Got there 30 minutes before the gate opened on a nice Sunday morning. Parking lot filled pretty quickly after they opened the gate. Crowded on the road to the trailhead from the parking lot, but the trail itself had very few people on it. Great views at lower elevations, but the top of Hurricane Hill was surrounded by walls of fog.

This place is packed. Great place but with the Lodge now gone it’s sad. I’ve been up to the ridge many times and the Lodge was such a nice building. Winter is pretty but it’s a little wild with people and having to be plowed.

Poor conditions

Today 34° light wet snow mix at noon Overnight rain settled the snow on the ridge road. Totally different with road showing through in spots. 2’ deep elsewhere. For trekkers punchy going on the trail shared with snowshoers. For snowshoers with short 21” shoes soft sometimes crusty. Not great for Nordic today

45° today. Weather moving in and on top of the ridge reported gale force winds. Nordic trail punchy for the first 3/4 mile. Then better. Hikers without small snowshoes will punch through in many places. Supposed to rain tonight then snow during the week.

First 1.2 Mile packed snow from trekking and snowshoeing. Then track for Nordic was better but by no means groomed. Trail used by back country some skinned up so a wide trail. All was covered with snow probably 24 inches. The ski hill was not in operation but soon.

Today was a beautiful sunny day, but I recommend checking the weather ahead. It was a snowshoe hike, I walked from the parking lot to Hurricane Hill, it's about 6 miles round trip and 1,100 elevation. The trail isn't marked, but well trampled.

This was one of the most beautiful hikes! Even though it’s paved the whole way up, the views completely made it worth it! It does get a bit steep in portions, but you’ll be stopping everything 10 steps to take in the views so you’ll be fine! Highly recommend to stop at the bathrooms before you get to the trailhead, we stayed at the top for over 2 hours.

Hiked this last week and absolutely stunning views of the mountain ridge reaching out to Canada and beautiful yellow “Sound of Music” meadows. Most of this trail is paved, but some parts are still quite steep. A must see!
