Pretty much straight up to the top with almost 1300 feet of elevation gain in a mile and a half, and then the same back down but well worth it and the trail fairies have done such a great job on this trail! Deeply indebted for their great work!
Gorgeous Trail, that is steep right off the bat and stays that way until you reach the top, and then steep and rocky for about half of the way down before you hit what’s effectively a dirt road that is much easier. Wear good sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes with good ankle support and bring lots of water! If you bring dogs, make sure they have plenty of water too as it’s a hot trail when it’s sunny.
View is great but it gets very rocky if you take the right entrance vs left going up. I would consider this a difficult hike. A lot of dogs are off leash but they are usually very polite/friendly. We drank about a bottle of water each. Views are lovely. No water in the stream (if that was a stream i saw towards the end).
Great hike! Pretty intense elevation gain going clockwise, or during the last quarter mile going counterclockwise. Had no problems with traction with hiking boots. Saw a few deer at the summit too. Great views from the top and would recommend. Took just over an hour to the top going clockwise for someone with moderate fitness level. Arrived at 9:30am on a Wednesday to a full parking lot so go early or pray for good luck with someone leaving
Parking is limited, but mid day on a Tuesday it was fine. I can imagine it's impossible on a weekend. Went clockwise (left side of the loop) Step trail, going up was 90% staircase. Not a lot of shade, but being that it's fall it was not too hot despite full sun. Really nice views! Going down was loose flagstone and sand for about the first 1/3 of the way, then easy the rest of the way to the parking lot. If you are not that sure footed, a hiking stick would be a very good idea.
Great trail, well-traveled and moderate to hard IMO. Started at Centennial trail head and hiked clockwise. No exposure to speak of on way up, biggest consideration is lots of sand and loose gravel on sloped red rock on ascent, slippery at times. Descent down switchbacks into Sanitas valley is steep with some awkward steps and transitions, watch you don’t catch your boot on roots and rocks here. Otherwise, a really beautiful not-too-strenuous hike with big views and close to downtown Boulder!
