Awesome, easy incline, not so muddy, great views. Do it !
Beautiful trail. It’s actually about 8 miles to get to the lake and back. About 2.5 hours into the hike, we found more and more hard snow on the trail. Deer Lake was surrounded by snow-covered pines and it was magical. There were a few fallen trees on the trail, including one that fell during our hike. No people past the waterfalls. We had the trail all to ourselves.
Beautiful trail. Great views the whole way. Started at 630 finished about 1730. Skipped the hoh lake portion...21 miles is plenty for a day trip for me. Saw 4 black bears in total. Must do hike in WA
Saw 12 bears, lots of mushrooms, and endless huckleberries. Rangers were nice too.
We hiked to the lunch lake overlook and back in about 8 hours (did not hike down to lunch lake). This is a beautiful view, however, in hindsight we probably would have done the whole seven lakes basin over just lunch lake. The hike up would have felt more worth it to see more than just lunch lake. Another hiker also informed us that the descent when you do the whole loop is much more gradual than the rocky descent coming back the way we came. Overall, still a great hike but worth considering the whole loop if you’ve got the time!
