Was an incredibly beautiful trail! It can be done in a lot quicker time that I did—I stopped many times just to take in the views, especially at the top. You can see into New York as was as New Hampshire at the top! A little wet in some parts, and can be somewhat steep for some, but overall an incredible trail that I highly recommend!
really tough but fantastic hike. bring gear
Very wet and muddy at the moment. Be careful of the slick rocks, especially if you take this trail down. It was basically scrambling up flowing streams in parts. Periodic views through the trees and some fun, mildly technical (esp due to the slickness) scrambling after the initial brutal step-ups. Y’all, don’t bring your dogs on this trail unless they’ve been thoughtfully conditioned and are structurally sound. Even then, they just don’t need to do this with you. The descent, no matter which way you go, will be much harder on them than it will be on you, and their elbows will absorb most of the impact.
Best and hardest day hike I’ve done in Vermont. There was some snow on top and melt through the day which made it extra difficult. Had some microspikes and would’ve been very challenging/sketchy without them.
Tough conditions today, ice on the scramble up the chin coming from the long trail made it difficult to pass. Went back and took the profanity bypass to climb the chin from the south. It did clear up as we passed the upper lip with beautiful views all the way down. Overall a challenging trail but definitely worth the effort
The gondola is now closed for the season as of October 20th
Incredible experience hiking from Twin Brooks to Taft Lodge. Conditions were perfect, colours were vibrant, views were spectacular. Steady incline to Butler Lodge. After Butler Lodge the terrain becomes a lot more difficult, some scrambling and climbing ladders/rocks until you reach the Forehead. Views from that point on are well worth the effort. Trail from summit to Taft is challenging downhill, especially with slippery rocks, we used the Profanity Trail shortcut on the way back up and it seemed a bit easier, still some scrambling.
